Description of Phase II Clients:


•        An incarcerated offender, classified as a minimum custody inmate, with 6
to 19 months remaining until his projected release date.

•        This inmate will have been determined to have a primary problem of
alcoholism or chemical dependency/abuse.  

•        This inmate will be physically and mentally stable and determined by the
Department of Corrections and Evergreen Rehabilitation Center Clinical
Department to be able to complete the treatment program.

•        This inmate is not in need of detoxification or other primary care services,
emergency medical care, or hospitalization for medical or psychological
conditions.

•        This person is gaining insight into the powerlessness and un manageability
in relationship to his addiction or relationship to substances through working
steps one and two of the twelve steps of alcoholics anonymous.  He has begun to
identify or has identified the need for external support or begun to build trust in
external sources of support through his work on the third step and sharing his
life story with his peers.  

•        He recognizes the ability to become honest and open minded in others and
is working toward adopting that characteristic in himself.  
•        He relates his continued legal conflicts with his actions and takes
ownership of the consequences.  He is mindful of other’s problems and his ability
to lend support to others.

•        He is learning to offer feedback in a constructive manner through
participation in peer evaluations.  The client has begun developing coping skills
that allows the client to control emotions without the use of mood altering
chemicals.


Phase II Clients have accepted the need for treatment and is personalizing the
process.  He has limited insight as to the abstract concepts of the recovery
process.  He continues to struggle with the terminology of the recovery
community and the norms that govern the behavior of recovering people.  His
circle of trust remains limited and he has not experienced or has limited
experiences with recovery networks outside of the prison system.  He is
attracted to positive people.
